Make a Lamp in Ceramics (4-week course)

Would you like to make your own unique lamp base? In this 4-week ceramics course, you’ll get the opportunity to design and glaze a ceramic lamp base.

We’ll take our time exploring the possibilities of clay and glazes. The course is for everyone — whether you’re a beginner or already have some experience with ceramics.

THE PROGRAM

Week 1: Shaping with Coiling Technique (April 15 // 2.5 hours)
We’ll kick off by building your lamp base and learning how to shape using the coiling technique.

Week 2: Refining and Adding Details (April 22 // 2.5 hours)
Next, we’ll focus on refining the shape and adding final surface details.

Week 3: Glazing (April 29 // 2 hours)
It’s time for colors! We’ll guide you through applying glazes.

Week 4: Assembling the Electrical Components (May 6 // 2 hours)
Once your lamp base is fired and glazed, we’ll assemble it and add the electrical parts (socket, cord, and plug).

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Price: 800 kr.

The course consists of four sessions. The price includes teaching, 2 kg of clay for your lamp base (with the option to buy more), glazes, firings, and the electrical parts (socket, cord, and plug) for your lamp. Please note that a lightbulb and lampshade are not included. No previous ceramics experience is needed – everyone is welcome!

The workshop is located on the 3rd floor of Folkehuset Absalon. Please note that there’s no elevator. Wear clothes that can get a bit dirty. Our ceramist will guide you and provide advice, but we can’t guarantee that every piece will survive the kiln.
